두 가지 제형으로 편의성 높여…12개월 이상 유소아부터 복용 가능
[이슈밸리=박지영 기자] 최근 생활수준이 높아짐에 따라 위생관리가 향상됐지만 식생활과 생활 습관 등 기생충이 침투할 수 있는 경로가 더욱 다양해졌다.
특히 생선회나 육회, 유기농 채소 등 식품을 통한 감염이 꾸준히 진단되고 있고 수입식품이나 해외에서 유입된 기생충에 의한 감염, 반려동물을 통한 감염 등이 기생충 감염 증가의 원인으로 제기되고 있다.
기생충 감염 사례는 증가하고 있지만 스스로 확인이 어렵고, 신체접촉이나 옷 등을 통해 주위사람으로 전파되기 때문에 전문가들은 정기적으로 구충제를 복용해 치료하는 것을 권고하고 있다.
젤콤은 플루벤다졸(Flubendazole) 성분의 구충제로 회충, 요충, 편충, 십이지장충의 감염 및 이들 혼합감염 등 광범위한 치료효과가 있어 ‘종합구충제’로 불린다.
인체에 흡수되어 작용하지 않고 장내에 있는 기생충에 직접 작용해 기생충을 죽이는 제품이다. 이 제품은 장 내에서 기생하는 기생충에 영양분이 흡수되는 것을 억제하고 기생충이 살아가는데 필요한 당(Glucose)의 대사를 억제시켜 기생충을 자가분해 시키는 작용을 한다.
기생충이 장내에서 분해되어 육안으로는 확인이 어렵지만 분변과 함께 배출되므로 안전하고 깔끔한 것이 장점이다.
이 제품은 알약과 현탁액의 두 가지 제형으로 출시돼 알약을 삼키기 어려운 어린이나 환자도 복용할 수 있다. 12개월 이상의 유소아부터 복용할 수 있으며, 전 연령이 동일하게 1회 1정 혹은 1포 복용으로 치료가 가능해 24개월 이상 유소아부터 복용이 가능하고, 2회를 복용해야 하는 알벤다졸 성분 제품에 비해 복용 편의성이 뛰어나다.
취침 전 공복(장에 음식물이 없고, 기생충 활동도 뜸한 잠자기 1시간 전)에 복용하는 것이 가장 좋지만 필요 시에는 식사와 관계없이 복용할 수도 있다. 매년 계절이 바뀌는 봄과 가을 두 차례에 걸쳐 정기적으로 복용한다면 기생충 감염에 대한 걱정에서 자유로워질 수 있다.
종근당 관계자는 “기생충은 가족 중 한 사람만 갖고 있어도 온 가족에게 옮기는 경우가 많기 때문에 같은 환경에서 생활하는 가족 또는 공동체 구성원들이 모두 함께 구충제를 복용하는 것이 중요하다”며 “종합구충제인 젤콤을 복용하면 기생충으로부터 가족 건강을 지킬 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다.
