[이슈밸리=사설] 공정거래위원회가 최근 신세계 계열 편의점 이마트24를 상대로 조사를 벌였다. 이마트24가 가맹거래법을 위반했는지를 조사한 것이다.
공정위는 지난달 편의점 GS25를 운영하는 GS리테일이 자체 상표(PB) 도시락 납품업체에 하도급 '갑질'을 했는지 조사했다. 공정위 주요 업무는 대기업 불공정거래를 조사하는 일이다.
다만 최근 논란이 된 정용진 부회장 인스타그램을 놓고 정부의 정치 보복 아니냐는 해석이 나온다.
정용진 부회장은 최근 자신의 인스타그램에 우럭과 가재 요리 사진을 올리면서 “잘가라 우럭아~니가 정말 우럭의 자존심을 살렸다 미안하고 고맙다”, “가재야잘가라 미안하고 고맙다”는 글을 올렸다.
일각에서는 정 부회장이 문재인 대통령의 세월호 희생자 관련 발언을 따라 했다는 주장이 제기되며 논란이 됐다.
문 대통령은 대선 후보 시절인 2017년 3월 팽목항을 찾아 방명록에 “얘들아. 너희들이 촛불 광장의 별빛이었다. 너희들의 혼이 1000만 촛불이 되었다. 미안하다. 고맙다”고 썼다.
이후에도 정 부회장은 게시물마다 영어로 ‘미안하다 고맙다’라는 의미의 ‘Sorrythank you’라는 문구를 함께 적었고 전날에는 반려견의 죽음을 알리는 글에도 ‘미안하다 고맙다’라는 표현을 넣어 논란이 확산했다.
정 부회장의 진짜 속내야 어떻든 간에 공인으로서 조심해야 할 부분은 있다,
자신이 먹는 음식을 향해 미안하고, 고맙다고 한 말 자체를 탓할 수는 없다. 하다만 정 부회장은 ‘미안하다 고맙다’란 문장이 지닌 사회적 함의를 잘 알고 있을 것이다.
평소 자유분방한 성격의 정 부회장이 자신의 일상을 인스타그램에 올리는 것은 자유이지만, 그의 말 한마디 실수로 인해 신세계, 이마트 등 임직원들에게 좋지 않은 영향을 끼칠 수 있다는 점을 항상 인식해야 한다.
한 가지 덧붙이자면 공정위 이마트 조사 타이밍 역시 다분히 오해의 소지가 있다는 점이다. 공정위는 “절대 아니다”라고 부인하겠지만 최근 정용진 부회장 논란에 정부가 곧바로 대응했다는 오해를 불식시키는 쉽지 않아 보인다.
표현의 자유가 있는 나라에서 오너의 SNS 표현 때문에 수사를 받는다면, 이는 공산국가나 다름없다. 공정위 측은 편의점 이마트24 점주협의회가 본사인 이마트24를 불공정거래 혐의로 제소해 조사를 벌인 것뿐이라는 입장이다.
돌다리도 두들겨 보고 건너가야 하는, 서로서로 조심해야 하는 시대다.
