[이슈밸리=윤대우 선임기자] 물론 트럼프 대통령도 장점은 있다. 상대를 ‘들었다 놨다’ 하는 협상기술, 앞뒤 돌아보지 않고 밀어붙이는 과감성과 추진력, 주변 가족을 알뜰살뜰 챙기는 마음, 한 푼의 돈도 아끼려는 절약 정신 등이다.
그는 어린 시절부터 아버지를 따라다니며 그 어렵다는 임대료를 수금하러 다녔다. 그리고 세계 최강 미국의 대통령이 되기까지 숱한 반대편의 공격에도 아랑곳하지 않고 어려움을 극복했다. 지금 트럼프 대통령의 부와 명예는 그냥 온 것은 아닐 것이다.
트럼프 대통령은 2020년 재선을 앞두고 있다. 그의 재선 성공 여부에 대한 미국 내 찬반 의견은 팽팽하다. 한쪽에선 일자리 팍팍 늘려줘서 좋아 할 것이고, 다른 쪽에선 인종차별을 서슴지 않는 모습에 실망감이 클 것이다.
우리 입장에선 대한민국 방위비 인상이 “어릴 적 임대료 수금하러 다닌 것 보다 쉽다” 말한 트럼프 대통령이 씁쓸할 뿐이다. 한국이 얼마나 우습게 보이면 이런 말을 공개석상에서 할까. 이전에 보지 못한 미국 대통령이라 당황하기까지 하다.
한미훈련에 대해 “엄청난 돈이 들어가기 때문에 반대”한다고 아무 거리낌 없이 발설하는 그가 정상으로 보일리 만무하다. 동맹국 사람들의 생명, 동맹의 안보를 이렇게 쉽게 평가 절하했던 역대 미국 대통령은 없었다. 그렇다면, 매년 수 조원의 방위비를 내고, 수 십조원의 미군 무기를 구입하는 한국은 무엇인가. 미국이 그동안 대한민국의 평화와 안정을 보장해주는 대가로 매우 큰 돈을 벌어들인 것은 팩트다.
무엇보다, 북한이 미사일을 여러 차례 발사해도 “괜찮다”하는 식으로 무마하는 그의 가벼움은 놀랍다 못해 충격으로 받아 들여 진다.
“미사일을 쏴도 괜찮고”, “한미훈련은 마음에 들지 않다”고 말하면 북한은 오판할 수 있다. 북한 입장에서는 트럼프 재임 기간에 무엇인가 하지 않으면 안될 것 같은 강박관념이 생길 수 도 있다.
그 절박함이란. 남한에 대한 무력공격이든, 북한식 사회주의 틀을 깊숙이 심어 놓든지 말이다. 여기에 아무 말도 하지 않고 있는 문재인 대통령까지 가세하면서, 한반도는 그 어느 때보다 위험한 상황으로 내몰리고 있다.
문 대통령이 15일 광복절 기념식에서 말한 ‘평화로 번영을 이루는 평화경제를 구축하고 통일로 광복을 완성하고자 한다"는 말의 전제는 북한이 핵을 포기하고 미사일 실험 발사를 중단해야 한다 우선 순위가 있다.
아무튼 트럼프 대통령이 북한 미사일에 대해 방관하고, 한국을 향해 무책임한 발언을 계속한다면, 한국 내 미국의 영향력은 점차 감소할 것이다. 최근 뉴욕타임스도 ’도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령의 ‘불개입주의’ 정책이 아시아에서 미국의 영향력을 쇠퇴시킨다‘고 보도했다. 신문은 우방인 한국에 대해 방관자적 입장을 계속 취하면 미국의 입지는 좁혀질 것이라 전했다.
미국이 아시아, 한국에 대해 영향력을 끼치려면 튼튼한 안보를 뒷 받침 해줄 때 가능한 것이다. 안보 동반 관계 구축보다 비용 절감에 더 초점을 두는 트럼프 대통령 덕에 한 세기간 누려왔던 최강 미국의 영향력은 급속도로 약해질 수 있다.
지금은 온 나라가 일본 이슈로 덮여 있지만, 북한 미사일 발사 문제와 트럼프 미국 대통령이 한국을 향해 하는 말들을 우리는 냉정하게 짚고 넘어가야 한다. 트럼프가 뚝뚝 내뱉는 말을 그냥 편하게 생각한다면 향후 1~2년 내 우리나라는 생각지도 못한 위험에 처할 수도 있다.
오늘 말하려는 것은 상식이다. 누구를 비판하거나 편을 들려는 것도 아니다. 대한민국이 평화와 번영을 이루기 위해서 할 수 있는 것은 무엇인지 나누고자 했을 뿐이다.
광복 74주년, 이 민족과 이 땅을 지키려 했던 순국선열들을 생각하면서, 우리가 대한민국을 잘 지키기 위해서 할 일은 무엇이고, 우방인 미국은 우리에게 어떠한 존재인지 다시 고민하게 된다.
President Trump, of course, has his merits. They include negotiating skills to "hold in" opponents, boldness and drive to push them forward without looking back, a mind to pare for surrounding families and a spirit of saving even a penny of money.
He followed his father around from childhood to collect the difficult rent. And he overcame the difficulties despite numerous attacks from the other side that led him to become the president of the U.S., the world's strongest nation. President Trump's wealth and honor now may not have just come.
President Trump is set to be re-elected in 2020. Opinions in the U.S. on whether he will be reelected are tense. On the one hand, they would like to see more jobs, and on the other, they would be disappointed at the fact that they don't hesitate to discriminate.
For our part, President Trump is only bitter when he said that raising defense costs for the Republic of Korea is "easier than going to collect rent for a young age." Let's say this in public if Korea looks so funny. He is even embarrassed because he is a president of the U.S. that he has never seen before.
It is inevitable that he would appear normal to speak out about the Korea-U.S. drill without reserve that he opposes it because it costs a great deal of money. No previous U.S. president has so easily devalued the lives and security of allies. So, what is South Korea, which pays trillions of won in defense costs each year and buys tens of trillions of won in U.S. military weapons? It is a fact that the U.S. has made very big money in return for guaranteeing peace and stability in the Republic of Korea.
Most of all, his lightness of being "fine" even if North Korea launches several missiles is remarkable. I'm shocked that I can't.
North Korea can misjudge if it says that it is okay to fire missiles and that it does not like the South Korea-U.S. drills. For North Korea, there may be an obsession that it will have to do something during Trump's tenure.
That desperation. Whether it's an armed attack on the South or planting a North Korean-style socialist framework deep in. Moon Jae-in, which does not say anything here, Driven partly by the president, The Korean Peninsula is more dangerous than ever is being forced by circumstances.

Anyhow, if President Trump continues to remain on the sidelines on North Korean missiles and make irresponsible remarks toward South Korea, the U.S. influence in South Korea will gradually decrease. The New York Times also recently reported that U.S. President Donald Trump's "uninterventionist" policy undermines U.S. influence in Asia. The newspaper said the U.S. position will be narrowed if it continues to take an onlooker stance toward its ally, South Korea.
If the U.S. wants to influence Asia and South Korea, it can do so when it backs up its strong security. Thanks to President Trump, who focuses more on reducing costs than building a security partnership, the influence of the U.S., which has enjoyed for a century, could be rapidly weakened.
The whole country is now covered by Japanese issues, but we must calmly address the issue of North Korean missile launches and what U.S. President Trump says toward South Korea. If Trump just feels comfortable with what he's saying, Korea could face unexpected risks in the next one to two years.
What I'm going to say today is common sense. Nor is he trying to criticize or take sides with anyone. I just wanted to share what the Republic of Korea can do to achieve peace and prosperity.
Thinking about this nation and its patriotic martyrs who tried to protect the land on the 74th anniversary of Korea's liberation, we are reminded of what we should do to protect the Republic of Korea and what our friends, the United States, are like.
